Work Starts on the new A green

Contractors have stripped bare the 15-year old playing surface in front of the Kardinya Bowling Club pavilion ahead site construction and installation of a new sand-filled synthetic green.

The project to replace Kardinya’s 40-by-40-metre international size “A” Green began as planned on Monday 20 April.

The old synthetic surface, which has served the club well since 2005, has been donated to the Spearwood Bowling Club.  A few remnant pieces were gleefully taken away by Kardinya members.

Apart from pulling up the old green, the local contractor engaged by Evergreen Synthetic Grass is installing new plinths, as well as widening and re-leveling the ditches around “A” Green ahead of laying a new playing surface.

The new green, described as an Ultra Plus Gold surface, is similar to what North Beach Bowling Club has laid at its club.  Being lighter in colour than the standard green product, it should enhance player visibility under the overhead shades at Kardinya.

Product for the new green is expected to arrive in Perth from the Eastern States around 4-5 May, with installation following immediately, and completed within seven to 10 days.

No final decision has yet been made on when “B” Green will be resurfaced, or the overhead shade cloth replaced.  This work was originally scheduled for 2021, however, given all the disruption caused by the Covid-19 crisis, the club’s management committee will now need to re-assess this subject in coming months.
