Kardy trio off to the national finals at Moama

A Kardinya triples combination is one of three Western Australian teams to have made it through to the national finals of the BPL Cup to be played at Moama (NSW) from 23-26 February 2021.

Sam Perica (skip), Tony Cocodis (second) and John Terrell (lead) were in sparkling form at South Perth on Sunday 20 December when they defeated teams skippered by Darren Wilkinson (Bunbury) and Clive Adams in the State finals. They won both their matches in straight sets.

With an unassailable lead in their section, the Kardinya trio played Blake Nairn’s team from Cambridge in what was, effectively, a dead rubber.

Other WA qualifiers were Charlie Slavich (skip), Ryan Moyle and Simon Geering from Doubleview, and Clive Adam’s team of Ross Bolton and Phil Potts who won a third spot for the nationals after defeating Mark Simpson’s team from Dudley Park in a play-off match between the two sectional runners-ups.

The Kardinya combination had earlier this month won their club and regional sections of the Bowls Premier League (BPL12).  A fourth member of the team who should not be overlooked in the team’s overall success is Daryl Radford who combined with Tony Cocodis and John Terrell when they won their regional section of the tournament at Willetton on Sunday 6 December.  On that occasion Tony was a substitute player after Sam injured his back.  Daryl honourably opted to stand aside for the State finals at South Perth.

Moama Bowling Club, located on the NSW side of the Murray River (near Echuca, in western Victoria) is one of the biggest and most luxurious bowling facilities in Australia, if not the world.
